The motor <\/strong>of an electric bicycle is usually integrated into the hub<\/strong> of the front or rear wheel, or in the bottom bracket. It must have a maximum output of 250W. The pedal-assist sensor<\/strong> is located in the bottom bracket and detects that the user is pedaling. It sends a signal to the controller<\/strong> to adjust the level of electric assistance based on the pedaling cadence (rpm) and the torque applied to the transmission. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The control pane<\/strong>l of an electric bicycle displays the battery charge status<\/strong> and allows the user to select the level of pedal assistance<\/strong>. In some models, it is also possible to configure the settings of the electrical system and access data such as the distance traveled or average speed. The General Vehicle Regulation (Royal Decree 339\/2014)<\/strong> defines an electric bicycle or pedal-assist<\/strong> bicycle as a bicycle that uses a motor with a maximum power of 250W to assist the rider’s effort.<\/strong> This motor must stop if the rider stops pedaling<\/strong> or when the speed exceeds 25 km\/h<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the European Directive regarding the approval of two- or three-wheeled motor vehicles (REGULATION EU 168\/2013<\/strong>) limits the maximum nominal power to 250W<\/strong>.<\/p>\n
